Jade is a symbol of purity, protection, harmony, abundance, luck, and prosperity. It’s referred to as the “stone of heaven” in China -- said to have the power to heal and act as a link between heaven and earth. Jade also represents virtue and wealth, and is used to attract positive energy in feng shui.
When you strike a piece of authentic jade, it results in a bell-sound. This sound is produced because of the density of jade. The ringing sound that jade produces is said to be “heavenly" and is also a part of certain Chinese rituals.
"Nephrite" is the common variety of jade -- it is abundant and more affordable than jadeite. Much of the jade you find on the market, including this pendant, is nephrite.
This magnesium-rich gem has a pale color, and even though the iron in its composition gives it some green hues, it is most valuable when it comes in shades of white or close to white. In historical China, Nephrite was used to make ceremonial objects, battle armor, and tomb decorations. On the other hand, the Maori used it to make tools and gifts used to seal business deals.
